A chemical biology laboratory, we use synthetic organic chemistry to prepare novel compounds that serve as supramolecular receptors or function as do more complex natural molecules.
We have successfully designed and prepared families of compounds:
• that function as cation channels in phospholipid bilayers, and
• mediate anion transport through membranes.
In addition, we have prepared receptors that permit us to examine weak intermolecular - supramolecular - forces that pervade chemical and biological phenomena.
